Rhino in a field

About Us

Founded in 2016, the Mara Rhino Project (MRP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring and protecting the dwindling Southern white rhino population within the Maasai Mara ecosystem. With only two Southern white rhinos currently residing in the Olchoro Oirouwa Conservancy, our mission is to create sustainable solutions that allow rhino populations to thrive despite the pressures of human encroachment and habitat loss. MRP is committed to implementing cutting-edge conservation strategies while engaging local communities, creating employment, and empowering women in the region.

Our approach focuses on habitat restoration, anti-poaching initiatives, and collaborative partnerships with conservancies, governments, and like-minded organizations. MRP actively works to increase the rhino population by translocating rhinos, enhancing monitoring systems, and establishing volunteer programs. We believe that sustainable conservation requires not only the preservation of wildlife but also active involvement from the surrounding communities, offering economic opportunities and educational outreach programs that foster a culture of coexistence.

At MRP, we envision a future where rhinos flourish within the Maasai Mara, contributing to a balanced ecosystem that benefits both wildlife and local communities. Through strategic fundraising efforts and innovative conservation methods, we aim to expand our programs, build necessary infrastructure, and ensure the continued protection of these magnificent animals. Together, with the support of partners and donors, we are working towards a sustainable future for the rhino population in the Mara and beyond.
